Function of a Catalytic Converter

A catalytic converter reduces the amount of pollutants produced during fuel combustion. A catalytic converter, in simplified terms, is basically a filter whose surface is covered with precious metals (platinum, rhodium). The catalytic converter also includes a lambda probe that measures the ratio of ambient air to exhaust gases. It passes this information to the control unit, which adjusts the composition of the mixture accordingly
