A catalytic converter is a component in automobiles that reduces the amount of harmful substances produced when fuel is burned to less harmful substances. The catalytic converter is therefore used to reduce the amount of pollutants coming out of the exhaust.
Do you know what a “cat” is? “Cats” is a colloquialism for catalytic converters.
A catalytic converter reduces the amount of pollutants produced during fuel combustion. A catalytic converter, in simplified terms, is basically a filter whose surface is covered with precious metals (platinum, rhodium). The catalytic converter also includes a lambda probe that measures the ratio of ambient air to exhaust gases. It passes this information to the control unit, which adjusts the composition of the mixture accordingly.
